A little history

Did you know that the pump is one of mankind's oldest inventions? Indeed the Greeks and the Romans had discovered the principles of the vacuum pump of the piston pump and the centrifugal pump. They used these inventions for baths and aqueducts. The hydraulic principles for sucking and pushing back a liquid date back to antiquity, but it was at the end of the 18th century that it entered the world of industry.

In fact, there was a very famous pump on the second arch of the Pont-Neuf on the right bank: "La Samaritaine", it took water from the Seine to supply the Louvre and the Tuileries Palace. Designed by Jean Lintlaër and built from 1605 to 1608, renovated several times, it was unfortunately destroyed in 1813. Its immense façade represented the encounter between Jesus and the Samaritan woman from Jacob's Well.
